Bangladesh (BAN) will be up against New Zealand (NZ) in the 1st ODI match of the New Zealand Tour of Bangladesh at The Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on September 21. This is going to be the first of a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh and is being seen as good preparation for both these teams ahead of the World Cup.
Bangladesh had squared off against India in their last match, where India won the toss and elected to bowl. The match being a dead rubber, both these teams decided to experiment and test their bench strength. With good knocks from Shakib, Hridoy, and Nasum, Bangladesh posted a strong total of 265 runs. India did not start well, losing their opener and captain right in the first over. Shubhman’s and Axar’s wickets proved to be the match-defining difference between the two teams, as Bangladesh won the match by just six runs.
New Zealand had squared off against England in their last match, where England won the toss and elected to bat. They started decently, although they lost Bairstow pretty early. Dawid Malan held the fort from one end, kept scoring continuously as he notched up another century, and took his team to a strong total of 311 runs. In reply, New Zealand did not start as they would have hoped for. There were a couple of good knocks, but they lacked a player who could take charge like Malan did for England and, hence, lost the match by 100 runs.
